Silence

The Umbral Element of Silence in Stehreel is a symbol of absence and loss.  It exists opposite of the Spectral Element of Sound and can be harnessed by warlocks in the Physical Plane of the world through its three aspects: Silence, Script, and Absence.

There isn't a main source of Silence in Stehreel, but it is often said to focus deep in the northern portions of the continent of Kayvahn.  It is said that Raetavek, Nameless of Silence, is buried there.

On the surface layer of the Umbral Plane, the element of Silence is at its weakest save in the Physical Plane of the world where it does not have tangible form.  There are several lesser demons associated with silence, creations of the Kaiser of Silence that can travel the surface layer of the Umbral Plane.

The Lesser Demons of Silence are the Mauler, the Occluder, and the Ravager.

The great Kaiser of Silence, the weakest of the Demigods, are called Ghasts; emaciated elf-like creatures with words carved over every inch of skin and all sensory organs sewn shut.

On the middle layer of the Umbral Plane, the element of Silence is strong and steady, an empty, hollow place full of the silence and the nothing.  No Lesser Demons journey to this layer of the Umbral Plane, because all of the passages to it are guarded by those touched by the hand of the Raetavek himself.

Some say that the spirits of those aligned to Silence journey to this layer of the Umbral Plane in death, dwelling in the pockets of emptiness.

The Mummy Seriph, strongest of the Demigods, dwell on this layer of the Umbral Plane, forged of quiescent energy.  Large slender corpses wrapped in seemingly endless bandages, the Mummies never speak.

Raetavek

In the deepest layer of the Umbral Plane, the element of Silence is so overpowering that it is said no mortal could bear to stand within it.  Only the Gods live here, among them Raetavek, the Nameless of Silence.

While often stereotyped as the mute God, Raetavek's power is much more comprehensive than that, dealing in absence and loss. Most often depicted wrapped in a straitjacket with his mouth sewn shut, Raetavek still manages to get his point across to his acolytes even without saying a word. Patron God of the maimed, the abused, and the abandoned, the silence left by the dark god's servants is most often broken only by weeping.

Raetavek's motives are often difficult to comprehend. Sometimes it seems he is mad with grief at whatever loss he eternally mourns, and wishes to lash out at all those around him. Other times his hand reaches out in comfort of the crippled and abused. Raetavek is much like the pied piper; with his soundless tune he can draw upon the loss in a person's heart and lead them with the most dangerous of music: complete understanding of their loss and empathy for it.

Raetavek is one of the Nameless who is not worshiped by any culture or people, though he gains power from the Mountain Elves of Stehreel who have a focus on the written word.
