Underground Fighting Rings Uncovered in Three Districts
Underground fighting is not a new thing in Kordinor. Four years ago the Sheriff of the State spear-headed a directive to cut down on the existence of rings that sponsored underground, or “black-book” fighting in this fair city but the criminal element has taken that as a challenge rather than an impediment. As a result, several new rings have sprouted up under the noses of the local Police and it takes extra effort to root out these dens of villainy.
Underground fighting is a danger both to the combatants who endure violent and sometimes deadly working conditions for the promise of coin, and for those unfortunate enough to live near the ring due to the higher traffic of criminals and unruly others in the area. It is a known truth that the two biggest organized crime syndicates in the city, the Diamond Mafia and the Ruby Bratva, run and champion underground fighting rings rigged to put more coin in their pockets.
Thanks to the concerted efforts of the local Police Station Houses and their new “Watchdog” program that pits individuals skilled at ferreting out both Hkahnihn and Elven presence even through walls and doors against the criminal underground, three of these rings were uncovered and cleared out last night, resulting in thirteen arrests and a number of official warrants for identified members of the organized crime syndicates.
Commandant Mick Sen’Donnel at the central Station House could not be reached for comment on whether or not some of the oldest-running, and most well-known, fighting rings of the city like the Glass Hammer and the Cage were next on the Police’s radar for raiding.

Dragon Singers?!
EXTRA! EXTRA!!
Last night a group of concerned men and women journeyed forth from the city in an effort to dissuade a Great Beast from making the northern road its hunting ground. Armed with makeshift weapons, conviction, and a love of their fellow man they sought to frighten an Orange Dragon off before anyone could be injured by it. Whether they would have stood up to combat with the beast is impossible to tell, and turned out to be a superfluous question as a group of three individuals turned aside the potential for violent, deadly struggle with instruments and voices instead.
Caelan and Saoirse Murphy, son and daughter of our own Provost, in company with a Drukar third man applied lute, harmonica, and voice to the task of calming the Great Beast and preventing it from turning to violence. They performed so well, it is said, that not a drop of blood was shed and all of the concerned citizens who ventured forth that night returned without a scratch.
Provost Aoife Sen’Cleary-Murphy had this to say when it was brought to her attention that her children were involved:
“I can’t say I’m surprised. My husband Sean and I are very proud of our children. Caelan did a ten year tour in the Third Emerald Steel Division and has always been a credit to his father’s integrity and wisdom, while our daughter Saoirse has a wonderful singing voice. I had not believed it the caliber to sing down a dragon, but I have no doubt now to hear it!”
The beast was reported leaving the area shortly thereafter in company with a younger dragon missing the end of its tail.

Group That Sang to Dragon Perform at Local Pub
The three Elves that sang the Orange Dragon away from Kordinor performed in Cassidy’s Pub last night at dusking. The trio, composed of Saoirse and Caelan Murphy, children of Kordinor’s Provost, and a Blood Elf man named Vahn, filled the pub with local favorites until well near to mid of night. Renditions of The Maiden Fair and Rock and Chain got the crowd engaged and the sounds of lute, harmonica, and voice decorated the night air around the pub.
While a few basic, local songs were sung to appease the rough crowd, it was obvious the trio did not have much experience performing together and couldn’t hope to entertain a more discerning audience. The night was full of aborted starts, lyrical arrhythmia, and poor harmony. The band itself lacked much of a body to their music without the heavier instruments that might round out its tinny tone. While the Blood Elf’s voice carried some of the deeper melodies, it was insufficient to carry the whole performance.
None of the members of the small band were willing to give a statement to the Kordinor Herald after the performance and we’ve not heard of any potential future performances for the group.
While rumor has it that the three were instrumental in chasing an Orange Dragon away from Kordinor without anyone being injured, their performance was fair to middling at best in the safe confines of the bar. Perhaps if a dragon had stopped by to threaten the patrons they would have performed better?

Eight Men Slain In Alley Brawl!
EXTRA! EXTRA!!
Our city has seen its share of death, but this particular occasion is of notability due to the strange peculiarities of the case and the amount of death involved. Police were called to the scene late last night where a Deep Demon warrior with vicious knives and red eyes slew five Mountain Elf men with blades and beat an additional two Mountain Elf men to death with his bare hands before he was brought down.
Investigation has uncovered that the Deep Demon man in question was one Karljong Heldkasson, a retired outcast of the Odinshame School of Deep Demons. He was cast out of his School due to the Blood Rage and his inherent danger towards others in the School. These details were missed in the basic background checks for all Hkahnihn immigrants when Karljong moved to the city and it only underscores how important these checks are for the good of public safety.
It is not known at this time what caused the sudden eruption of violence, but a few witnesses have come forward to indicate that Karljong was seen going into that ally with a young girl who was not yet a hundred. Was he a predator? Were the men he killed a local watch hoping to protect a young girl from the unwanted attentions of a violent older man? Inquiring minds want to know!
A Blood Elf man was brought in by the Fifth Kordinor Station House for questioning in regards to the fight and the consequences, but his role in the altercation is not yet known.

Runaway Carriage Nearly Slays Wood Elf Child!
EXTRA! EXTRA!!
In a twist in fair Kordinor today, a Drukar man saved an Eldar child from the perils of a runaway carriage. Mrs. Halloway-Fairfax of the Sapphire Halloways was shopping in the eastern shopping district today when something spooked the big bay mare which pulled her Kinross Carriage and sent it charging down the cobblestone path of Claorie Street.
A few men and women were injured in the sudden and unexpected charge, which took the heavy Silerwood and Oak carriage careening through populace streets and around blind corners. It was near the eventual end of the carriage’s journey that a young Blood Elf man, whose name is not known, leapt onto the moving carriage in transit, broke the carriage’s breeching, steered the astonished mare away from a suicide course into an impending building, and flung himself bodily into the way of the carriage to stop its travel before it could collide with a young Wood Elf street urchin.
Some accounts indicate a young Sun Elf woman was also in the carriage’s path, but accounts are mixed on that score. The ongoing feud between the Blood Elves of the Plains of Blood and the Sun Elves of the Al’Mohahmihn Desert is well-known. It is uncertain why some believed a Sun Elf may have also been saved by the Blood Elf, as the presence of one of the golden desert-dwellers would likely have given the Blood Elf pause in his purpose at stopping the carriage.
It is unclear how exactly the Blood Elf was able to stop the carriage, but by all eyewitness accounts he did it with his bare hands and the touch of the Blood Rage which afflicts all Blood Elves of Stehreel. Mr. Caelan Murphy, an associate of the Drukar and son of our own city’s Provost, offered this statement to the Kordinor Herald on the incident:
“My friend did not hesitate when he saw the carriage flying down the street. Without question he leapt upon it and did whatever he could to stop the carriage in its tracks. I do not believe he even questioned the decision to save the child. No matter your species, no matter your race, a child’s life is important.”
Mrs. Halloway-Fairfax has chosen not to press charges against the Blood Elf for the loss of her carriage since it was in the pursuit of saving a child’s life. The Blood Elf could not be reached for a statement.

Plans Move Forward on Library Renovations
The struggling city budget got a shot in the arm today and it’s allowing the Provost to move forward on plans to renovate all of the local libraries as she promised in her last election campaign.
Supporters of Provost Sen’Cleary-Murphy feared that one of her biggest promises during the most recent election campaign, that all of the local libraries would be properly renovated for the modern era, would be unfulfilled due to the ailing budget. Details released in last quarter’s estimates indicated that the 11,000 gold plan was outside of the scope of this year’s budget, and the Provost is up for re-election during next year’s cycle.
However, an anonymous donation to the city’s coffers has pushed that renovation plan to the forefront in a surprise turn. The Provost announced in a city-square meeting this afternoon that she would be sitting down with contractors to begin plans for the sweeping renovations and promised that only local firms would get the work.
While the Provost’s detractors have suggested that the “local” work she would be hiring was likely subsidized by the Diamond State rather than Emerald’s home-grown businesses, no formal evidence has yet been submitted to the central Station House to sponsor an investigation.
While concerned voters may find it difficult to accept the charity of an anonymous donation, this reporter is just happy to see the money going to a good cause; wherever it came from.

Local Lieutenant Leads Joint Task Force in Deadly Sting!
EXTRA! EXTRA!!
Citizens of Kordinor wake to a cleaner city this morning as a nest of villainy was burned out of the political district near the capital last night. Our own Lieutenant Fayrehn of the Fifth Kordinor Station House led a team of Third Emerald Steel Division soldiers on a joint raid of a Bratva hideout that left four dead and resulted in the capture of ten men and women of the Ruby Mob, including three high level commanders of that evil institution.
Captain Marissa Shearan, the captain of the Fifth Kordinor Station House, has issued a statement about Lieutenant Fayrehn’s involvement in the raid for the Kordinor Herald:
“Lieutenant Fayrehn is an asset to the Station House and has been for the past six years. We have found her insights and willingness to resort to direct methods when needed to be a benefit to our mission of keeping the people in Kordinor safe. This operation with the Steel Division was fully sanctioned by the Station House, but in order to keep the likelihood that the wrong information could be leaked to the targets at the wrong time to a minimum, few at the Station House were in the loop. Lieutenant Fayrehn will be receiving a commendation for her part in making all of this happen and will be submitted for review with the higher authority at the central Station House for possible promotion. We guarantee that she will get what she deserves for her valor and bravery.”
The captured Thieves have been remanded into the Steel Division’s custody pending trial. There was no loss of life on the side of the Police and the Steel Division.

Local Criminal Element Clashes with Steel Division
Blood and violence is a highlight in today’s news as members of Kordinor’s criminal element struck out at the Third Emerald Steel Division as a reprisal for the recent raid on a Bratva hideout.
Criminals rioted and looted in the western and southwestern sections of the city in what appears to be reprisal for the organized strike against one of their organization strongholds. Fifteen men and women were injured and four arrests were made as a result of the protests, though thankfully there was no loss of life. Third Division Commander Jose Santiago Eduardo Cavesaz had this to say of the rioting and the violence:
“Stir up a nest of roaches and the skittering sabandijas will strike back in foolish and predictable fashions. We do not fear reprisals for our actions that adhere to the laws of this fair city. Let them come in small pockets or large groups and we will put them down as any lesser demon in the field.”
Captain Marissa Shearan of the Fifth Kordinor Station House had this statement to make:
“It is unfortunate that our actions as keepers of the peace and law must temporarily stir up such violence and contention. It is my hopes that once the trials for our prisoners have been concluded, things will return once again to the peace and tranquility we have known for years in Kordinor.”
When asked about whether or not either of them expect a result other than “Guilty” from the impending trials, Captain Shearan offered no comment, but Commander Cavesaz offered this:
“Compañero, I would not have the authority I wield now if I did not believe in truth and justice. The guilty will suffer and the innocent will walk free.”

Magus to stand local trial for assault on civilian!
EXTRA! EXTRA!!
Yesterday in lovely Kordinor there was an attack on a civilian by the local Wizards, putting into question the safety of allowing them to establish an Enclave to their school within our walls. Kordinor taxed silver paid for the construction crews that built the very Enclave the Wizards use. Kordinor taxed silver pays to keep the streets clean and the blocks free of criminals. Your tax coins are hard at work to give the Wizards a home within Kordinor that they can use to recruit young talent and spread magic throughout the Federal Republic. This is how the Wizards have chosen to repay those taxed coins.
The target, a young Blood Elf man seen often in the company of our Provost’s own son Caelan, and resident of Kordinor, was simply asking questions at the front desk of the Enclave when the assault came. While Blood Elves are known to be fractious and violent, the Herald does not believe at this time that the Blood Elf in question was trying to provoke the Magus. Known for having, at one time, assisted in singing an Orange Dragon away from the city, the Blood Elf in question is a law-abiding and upstanding citizen. Rumor has it he was also instrumental in stopping a runaway carriage in city streets and lent credible intelligence to the local Police in the recent raid on a Bratva hideout.
Magus Norianalla Elvanirasta of Lunatria is well known for her prejudice which her position allows her to give rein over minority Drukar and Hkahnihn within city walls. Incidents between the Magus and other citizens of the city have been reported before, but they were not pursued due to their pettiness. In this instance, however, the Magus unleashed horribly violent magic in a brutal attack directly at the civilian in her path and did not let up though he was on the cusp of death. The damage was so horrific that a local Druid was called in to attempt to repair some of the worst of it, though it still took a cleaning crew hours to clean up the blood.
Truly not embodying the spirit of Mountain Elf inclusionism, the Magus was censured by her superiors, but that was insufficient for the fair law of Kordinor City! A jury of her peers will be assembled and a trial will be held to determine not only her rights to remain within the city, but also whether or not the Enclave of Wizards should be subject to further penalties.
